Dr. Wise began his education in his home state with a Bachelor's Degree in physics from the University of Southern California. His interest in medicine then led him to study the effects of laser therapy on bleeding stomach ulcers. After this, he studied at L'Universite de l'Etat Liege in Belgium. In 1982, back at USC's School of Medicine, he earned his MD before studying urology at
Baylor College of Medicine, where he was driven to complete a fellowship with a world-renowned professor on male infertility.

Dr. Wise became practiced in French and Spanish through the course of his education and career. He was particularly struck by the poor conditions of the impoverished he encountered in Los Angeles, Houston, and Europe, and has developed a deep compassion for the sick and poor. He has published work on surgical therapy for cancers, was among the first to treat patients with extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), and works extensively to build upon his knowledge of medicine and remain active in medical, urological, and infertility societies.
